The work of the Parents’ Association is vital in supporting, enhancing and complementing the work of our school. Much can be achieved with parents, Board of Management, teachers and staff of the school working together. We are appealing for more parents to join the PA committee. Between us, we co-ordinate the activities below - all of which are only possible with the help of an extended team of parent volunteers. We only meet once every 4 to 6 weeks so it is not a huge time commitment, all you need to bring is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved in some way!
Fund-raising
We have a number of fund-raising initiatives planned for the coming year, the main ones being the Craft Fair and the Bag Pack.
Craft Fair (1st & 2nd December)
The craft fair is an annual event and not only contributes financially to the school but also to the overall school atmosphere. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the TY students to show case their mini companies too. The last craft fair generated over €14,000 profit and is our main fundraiser. A sub-committee runs the fair but we are always in need of more assistance. If you can help in any way, we would be delighted to hear from you. Or, if you would like to take a stall, that would be great too.
Bag Pack
We have been granted a bag pack weekend by Tesco for the weekend of Fri 9th h/Sat 10th November.
300 Club
We are researching a new fund-raising initiative. Details to follow ……….
Evening & Weekend Supervised Study
This is an excellent facility which is run solely by parents for the benefit of our children. It is held Monday to Thursday from 7-9pm and on Saturdays and Sunday mornings 9.30 to 12.30 after Christmas. It is highly beneficial for our students and is free of charge. At each session, one parent is needed to supervise. Any parent whose child avails of the study is asked to participate in a rota where they will supervise approx. one study session per month.
Car Boot Sales
Between April and September this year, we held 10 car boot sales. They were extremely successful, generating a profit of almost €8,500 to the school. This was only possible with the help of a team of parent volunteers. We hope to run the car boot sales again next year, depending on the schedule of development works of the school building.
Catering
We cater at several events throughout the year, the 6th year graduation (May), school show (January) and the AGM (October). The 6th year graduation is a memorable day for our 6th years and their families - personalised tee-shirts for our students, the graduation cake with class photo and reception in the school for our 6th years and their families. A very special day!
