Leaving Certificate Awards Evening

On Tuesday the 4th of September a large number of staff along with members of the class of 2018 gathered in the dining hall of St. David's for the Annual Leaving Certificate Awards Ceremony. The purpose of the awards ceremony is to recognise outstanding academic achievement in the Leaving Certificate Examinations. Any student who received a H1 or H2 grade received an award on the night.

The ceremony was opened by School Principal, Ms. Mary O' Doherty who spoke about the importance of the awards and congratulated both students and parents on the fantastic results that had been achieved. This was followed by Deputy Principal, Mr. Simon Carey, who began the task of reading through the list of fifty one individual award winners. Each student was presented their award by either the head boy or head girl along with Ms. O' Doherty.

Following the individual awards the focus shifted towards the best in class prizes. In base class 6.14, Ms. Ní Mhaoilchiaráin, Aoife Rainey achieved the overall best results, In 6.18, Mr. Ó Muirgheasa, Katie Byrne was the top performer. In class group 6.26, Mr. Ó Donnchadha, Cian Gaines was awarded best in class and finally in class group 6.38, Ms. Carmody, the best in class prize was awarded to Doireann Brosnan.

The final award of the evening was the Paul Ellis Cup which is awarded to the student who achieved the best overall Leaving Certificate from the entire class group. The winner this year was Aoife Rainey who epitomises the Paul Ellis award in the way she conducted herself as a hardworking, academic, empathetic and respectful student throughout her six years in the school.

The evening concluded with a wine and crackers reception.
​Congratulations to all students who achieved awards on the night but a massive well done must go out to the entire class of 2018 on their excellent results. Best of luck to all in the future!
