Hi! I’m Harvey, A past student of St. Davids. Currently I am on the Irish IOI team of 2020. The IOI is an international programming competition for secondary school aged students. Participants have to solve as many programming problems as they can within a time limit, The problems are similar to ones you might see in maths but programming oriented. For example, You might be asked to write a program that gets given a list of items along with their weights and has to work out how many you can fit in a bag. So unlike a maths problem you aren’t given the list of items and have to work it out yourself, Instead you have to write a program that can take in any list and work out the solution in that case.
Every year here in Ireland we have a competition called the AIPO which is used to select students for the team. With problems ranging from easy to hard anyone can enter and compete for a place on the team. Even if you don’t have a lot of experience programming it is a great way to get started and a lot of fun.
