The 6th Year Graduation took place on Friday the 28th of May. This year the main component of the graduation took place in the Holy Rosary Church in Greystones. Fr. Gerard lead the celebrations on behalf of the Church. There were touching moments throughout the socially-distanced occasion as students finally began to come to terms with the fact that they were finishing up in secondary school after five or six years.
There were excellent musical performances throughout from several of the 6th Year students, including Dylan Anderson, Aoife Finnegan, Ciara Power, Rita Chernikova, Lore Barth and Cian Parkinson.
Mr. Maguire, as Year Head, spoke of the fond memories that he has of the students and complimented them on their work ethic and commitment over the past number of years, but in particular over the past two years in the face of Covid. Mr. Carey, Deputy Principal, discussed his experiences with the current group of students and wished them well on the next chapter of their lives.
Ms. O' Doherty, spoke of how the current group of 6th Years will be her final as Principal. After sixteen years leading St. David's Secondary School Ms. O'Doherty is moving on to academia at the end of this academic year.
Mr. Maguire announced the winner of the student of the year award before bringing an end to the Church component of proceedings. This years students of the year winner is Rosie Mitchell on account of her exemplary attitude, strong work ethic and impeccable dedication to the school and her studies.
For some students this is the end of their time in St. David's. For others the Leaving Certificate will commence in a couple of weeks. No matter what path students are taking all of the staff at St. David's wish them well in their upcoming ventures.
A big thank you to all who were involved in making this afternoon's graduation such a memorable occasion. This includes Mr. Maguire (Year Head), Ms. Kane, Ms. Cunningham, Ms. McCormack, Ms. Murphy and Ms, Wilson.
