Student Council Elections

10/18/2018

Picture
Over the past couple of weeks students of the individual base classes in St. David's have been in competition with each other in an attempt to gain election to the Student Council. Firstly all students had the opportunity to run for election. Students with a desire to run for class representative had to complete an application form which required nominations from two of their peers along with a signature from the Deputy Principal. Election speeches were then held during an extended tutorial time. This was followed by the voting process, whereby students from each class were involved in a secret ballot which was facilitated by the fifth year prefects. The results of the ballot were then announced at the end of the school day.

Congratulations to all students who were elected along with all students who ran for election.

Role of the Student Council:
  • To create, in cooperation with school management, students and staff, a better school life for all, and an improved system in which the school is run.
  • To allow the students to voice their opinions and develop a sense of responsibility within the school community.
  • To encourage students to become more aware about how the school is run, so that their needs and wants can be identified and expressed.
  • To contribute to the overall development of the school, through involvement in policy development and as a resource in a working partnership with the school's management.
  • To act as a liaison between students and management.

All students elected to the council are required to attend the student council meetings which take place every two to three weeks. Students who do not attend may be removed from the council.

Best of luck to all students involved and a massive thank you to Ms. Ní Mhaoilchiaráin for all her hard work!
