Student Council Elections

10/16/2020

Picture
The annual student council elections took place in the dining area on Wednesday 14th of October where the next set of members of the student council for the 2020/21 academic year would be elected. Beforehand, any student who wished to run for the council was given a candidature form which had to be signed by two classmates from their base class. They then had to make a speech in which they would explain why they felt they should be elected to the council. The class would listen attentively and make their choice.

Next up was the voting process. This year’s election took place in a different fashion, Masks and the smell of hand sanitizers filled the room, and everything had to be done apart, two metres apart to be exact.

Each base class was called up separately, starting out with the 1st years. The voting took place in the dining area, where the 5th year prefects set up a socially distanced, Covid-19 compliant voting system.

The voters received a sheet with all nominees on them, and went behind a concealed desk to place their vote. These votes were then accurately counted by a group of 5th year prefects in order to ensure accuracy in the results.

First up were the first year students who eagerly placed their first ever votes, completing one of their many rites of passages in their school journey. Many other classes followed and after a long day of democratic elections the winners of each group were announced.
Below is a list of students who got elected. A huge well-done to all students who ran in the elections.
