Minor Soccer vs Glenart College

10/26/2018

On Friday, the 26th of October, the minor boys soccer team had another amazing win. Following a win against, Gaelcholáiste na Mara, the boys were very high in confidence. This was shown right from the get go, as the boys started the game very strongly, attacking Glenart’s defence. With a lot of pressure of St.David’s, Glenart’s defence was bound to crack and this happened in spectacular fashion. Callum Smith showed unbelievable skill to score directly from a corner and this set the ball rolling for the rest of the game. Soon after this Callum Smith bagged his second goal when he flicked it around the defender and then produced a nice finish. St.David’s were in full flow now, with full back Cathan McCarthy winning every ball that came to him and Mark Hayden causing damage on the wing.

St.David’s continued this brilliant performance all through the first half, and the first half finished 5-0, with Michael Martin and Cian Bollard (2) getting the goals. St. David’s completely changed their team at half time, but this did not weaken the team. The same pressure started straight away in the second half, with Michael Shannon in defence and Cian Ó Lonaigh in midfield. Daniel Tierney and Robert Shparuta bagged themselves goals. The second half was just as strong as the first half and they scored six goals, with the pick of the bunch being Euan Brady finish after Eoin Browne split the defence with a pass from his own half. Goal scorers were Callum Smith (2), Cian Bollard (2), Michael Martin (3), Daniel Tierney, Euan Brady, Robert Suparuta, Mark Hayden.

It was impossible to fault this performance from the lads. There is lots of talent in this St.David’s squad and let’s hope they can continue this form into their next match.
