On the 14th of December the first year boys football team played their first match against Gaelcholáiste na Mara in Arklow. The lads worked hard for the entirety of the game despite bad weather conditions.
The team played well for the first half of the match and the defence managed to keep the other team from scoring but unfortunately, the opposition managed to score at the start of the second half. The boys kept their heads high but by the end of the match they lost by three goals with a final score of 1-4.
All of the lads played well but there was an exceptional performance from the team captain Alex Baines who scored an amazing goal during the second half.
Good luck lads in your upcoming matches!

The boys started off well in the first half and had a few chances. Unfortunately the first big chance of the game came to Templecarrig which they scored from. Mark Hayden came close with two chances in the space of three minutes. Stand out performances in the first half came from Mark Hayden, Cian O’Longaigh, Cian Bollard, Euan Brady and Callum Smith.
The second half saw a bright start from Davids. They had many half chances with two of them coming from Callum Smith. Great control from Callum Smith allowed him to get a shot away which forced the Templecarrig keeper to make a save. Good kicking from goalkeeper Luke Whelan put Tom O’Malley through down the right wing for another St. David's chance.
The lads put in a good shift but were unfortunate that they couldn't capitalise on some chances but they showed great enthusiasm and a desire to win and hopefully will win their next matches.
The next game will take place on Wednesday of next week against Creagh College. A win in this game will secure a place in the semi-finals.

On the 4th of December, our senior boys soccer team had a triumphant victory against St. Killian’s Bray. The lads worked incredibly hard by not letting the opposition have a chance of scoring a goal during the entirety of the game.
At half time the score was 0-0 and the boys knew it was going to be a challenge if they were going to be the overall winners of the match. A few minutes into the second half, the first goal of the match was scored by Matthew Counihan. Shortly after, Eoghan Ó Longaigh scored a second goal bringing the score to 0-2. Although they were in the lead, they didn’t let it get to them and the team continued to stay strong right until the final whistle.

On Friday the 9th of November St. David’s first years lined out in a local derby versus Templecarrig Greystones in their first match of the season. Both teams knew coming into this match that they would be faced with very tough conditions due to the harsh weather on the day. For some players on the David’s team it was their first rugby match ever, let alone first match together as a year group. However, this fact would seem hard to believe to a spectator of this match as the tremendous effort that St. David’s put into this match portrayed a much more experienced outfit. They showed incredible heart to fight through the tough conditions and to put two tries on the scoresheet. Templecarrig, however, were the more experienced side which proved to be the deciding factor in this match as they managed to score three tries David’s over the course of the game. Our 1st Year’s performance done the school and their coaches proud and there is certainly more to come from this particular group of students. Final score 15-10 to Templecarrig Greystones. Tries for David’s came from James Browner and Mike O’Neill.
The game didn’t start off well for the lads as they found themselves a few points down after the first few minutes. Glenn then got his second basket of the match followed by another Ignacio basket. The lads showed great team spirit as Glenn then scored two baskets to end the second quarter 17-18 to the Arklow side.
The team came out at the third quarter wanting to seal a win with baskets from Dylan Anderson,Glenn and Ignacio Fernandez which put them 27-23 ahead. The Arklow side managed to bring it back to 27-27.
Ignacio started the scoring off in the last quarter which was followed by a basket by Mark McConnell. This put Davids ahead by four points but Arklow managed the bring it level again. Ignacio,Dylan and Glenn scored baskets which gave the lads a 41-38 lead with only a minute left on the clock. Two free throws from Arklow and it was 41-40 and then with only seconds left Arklow took the lead and stole the game by a point.
The lads showed great team spirit and enthusiasm and were unfortunate to lose. Stand out performances from Glenn Halligan,Ignacio Fernandez and Dylan Anderson.
At the start of the first quarter the team found themselves behind by eight points but then Gracjan scored a basket to try get Davids back into it. Stephen Anderson showed great dribbling to beat his man and scored another basket.
A good interception from Stephen denied a certain basket. He followed this up with a basket of his own. Yofi then scored two baskets and two free throws to narrow the game to 12-15.
A three pointer from Josh followed by a basket from Fergal and a free throw from Patrick Delos Reyes goy St Davids back into it. Another three pointer from Josh got Davids back level. A good basket from Gracjan put Davids ahead.
Two baskets from Gracjan gave Davids a comfortable lead but Arklow showed signs of a comeback but their efforts weren’t enough as Davids won 30-29.

On Friday, the 26th of October, the minor boys soccer team had another amazing win. Following a win against, Gaelcholáiste na Mara, the boys were very high in confidence. This was shown right from the get go, as the boys started the game very strongly, attacking Glenart’s defence. With a lot of pressure of St.David’s, Glenart’s defence was bound to crack and this happened in spectacular fashion. Callum Smith showed unbelievable skill to score directly from a corner and this set the ball rolling for the rest of the game. Soon after this Callum Smith bagged his second goal when he flicked it around the defender and then produced a nice finish. St.David’s were in full flow now, with full back Cathan McCarthy winning every ball that came to him and Mark Hayden causing damage on the wing.
St.David’s continued this brilliant performance all through the first half, and the first half finished 5-0, with Michael Martin and Cian Bollard (2) getting the goals. St. David’s completely changed their team at half time, but this did not weaken the team. The same pressure started straight away in the second half, with Michael Shannon in defence and Cian Ó Lonaigh in midfield. Daniel Tierney and Robert Shparuta bagged themselves goals. The second half was just as strong as the first half and they scored six goals, with the pick of the bunch being Euan Brady finish after Eoin Browne split the defence with a pass from his own half. Goal scorers were Callum Smith (2), Cian Bollard (2), Michael Martin (3), Daniel Tierney, Euan Brady, Robert Suparuta, Mark Hayden.
It was impossible to fault this performance from the lads. There is lots of talent in this St.David’s squad and let’s hope they can continue this form into their next match.
