Senior Girls Rugby Blitz in Donnybrook

St David’s senior girls rugby team were off bright and early on Thursday the 5th of November to Donnybrook. Here they played three matches in a 7s rugby blitz.

Up first they were playing Mercy, Beaumont. This game resulted in a loss to a very competitive side. However, a very skillful try was scored by Saorla Purcell to ensure that we didn’t come away from the game pointless.

Spirits were not lost when playing Ardgillan next. The girls went in  full of confidence, which was evident in the big win they had against them. Holly Goodwin had a great game scoring two tries in the first half. Points were later added to the scoreboard by Lauren O’Leary. This brought the girls a well-deserved victory.

Although the girls were more than likely tired going into their final game they did not show it. Building up the score match by match, in this game they had their biggest victory yet. It was just try after try against Colaiste Bhríde. Holly Goodwin scored three tries, Lauren O’Leary scored two, Holly Dunne another two, Evelyn Kirwan and Aoife scored one each. This gave the girls a triumphant 45-0 win.

With a quick celebratory trip to Spar to get some well-deserved rolls and goodies. The girls got back on the bus a bit drenched but high spirits overall after winning 2 out of their 3 matches. Big congratulations and thanks to their coach Ms. O’Gorman. And a big well-done to the girls!
