On the 7th of November, a group of almost 40 TY students from the 2024/2025 Barretstown team took part in a fundraising talk in the school library. Niamh from the Community Fundraising Department Team in Barretstown came in to talk to the TYs about their crucial role in generating almost €30,000 to donate to this important cause.
Barretstown helps to offer free specially designed activities to children and their families living with serious illnesses, alongside the care of an onsite medical and nursing team.
Thanks to fundraising and donations children and their families can come to Barretstown free of charge and enjoy their lovely accommodation, delicious meals and fun activities.
The Barretstown TY residential programme helps students gain an insight into the important work that takes place within the grounds of the campus in Kildare. Students stay for a total of 4 days and 3 nights and while there, will take part in team bonding activities as well as preparing for the children's arrival on the weekend.
In order to help run this programme, they ask that the team of TYs try to fundraise €700 each to donate to the upkeep of accommodation and medical services for these children. To do this, students must try to fundraise money through bake sales and other community ideas such as fun days, bag packing, Christmas carol services, non-uniform days and many more.
In today's talk, everyone came together to brainstorm ideas, most of which will be put into action in a few weeks time.
We would like to thank Niamh from Barretstown for coming in and talking to the team. It is an extremely important cause and we hope you will consider donating in any way that you can. Keep an eye out on our socials for future fundraisers!
