An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister Simon Harris Visit

On Wednesday the 6th of September our school was honoured with a visit from the leader of our country, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. Taoiseach Varadkar was accompionied by past pupil Minister for Higher and Further Education, Research and Science, Simon Harris.

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister Simon Harris arrived to St David's at around 4p.m following a Dáil meeting at Avondale House. Both men were greeted with a standing ovation by everyone present when they stepped foot into the reception. They were welcomed by our Principal, Mr Carey, our Head Boy, Matthew Lawless, and Head Girl, Lisa Garcia. Following this, Minister Harris stepped up onto the podium and shared a small fraction of his wonderful memories and times spent here at St David's. Minister Harris also made sure to thank his former History and English teacher Ms Triona Brosnan for helping him to better his Public Speaking and debating skills.

An Taoiseach then addressed an eagar audience for around fifteen minutes before he, with the help of Matthew and Lisa, opened up the floor to the students so that they could ask any questions that they had and they felt were concerning to young people . This oppoutunity was snapped up by many of our students asking questions such as how to deal with stress and how does he plan to better the public transport system among others.

After the Q&A session An Taoiseach and Minister Harris said their goodbyes and left to go to their next appointment.

This was a day that everyone present will never forget. Thank you to An Taoiseach for visiting our great school and Minister Harris for returning once again. Their vist was greatly appreciated by all of us.
