It was a bright, crisp morning for our St. David's athletes in the Avondale Woods on the 18th of November. They arrived at the site at 11:50, with the area buzzing with competitors many different schools. Our team consisted of Kai, Oisín, Liam, Darragh, Jude, Stena and Rachel in first year, Connie and Ava in second year and James Dixon in fifth year. It was a single distance event, approximately 3km through a forest trail. Prior to their various races James Dixon led the younger years through a warmup, preparing for what proved to be a successful day in the woods.
It was quickly time for the athletes to line up. James Dixon and the older senior boys led the race being the first group off the line. Then our second year girls followed, and finally our first year boys, then girls took off.
Our athletes ran incredibly and finished in record time. We had some great results, with James Dixon coming fourth in the senior boys category and Rachel Carley bringing in 6th place out of first year girls. Liam Faye took home second place in first year boys, Connie Lewis came in fifth place in the second year girls category, and Ava Doran achieved seventh place in this category also.
The overall performance from our athletes was amazing and they certainly put in their best effort. Congratulations and well done to everyone and a massive thank you to Ms. Sinnott for accompanying them to Avondale!
