On Friday, 21st of November our 1st year boys played a total of 5 matches in a rugby blitz against St Benildus, Clonkeen, St Colmcilles and Newpark. The boys played well and gave it their best effort in this South Dublin 7s blitz.
To start off the morning, David’s played against Newpark, a strong side with great players. The match began with Newpark on the ball, and they scored a try in the first minute, inspiring the David’s team to work harder. Newpark was well-organised and fought hard for a 5-0 victory, an unfortunate loss for our 1st years.
After some reassurance from coach Mr. Byrne and an intense training session, David’s played against St. Colmcille and came out with a close score of 2-2. This was a good result and lifted the team’s spirits for the matches to come.
The 1st Year Boys then faced St. Benildus and came out with a disappointing defeat with a score of 3-0. However, the David’s boys were clearly improving their teamwork and organization skills as the day went on and they battled hard and didn’t make it easy for Benildus.
St. David’s then had a match against Clonkeen’s first team, a formidable team with some of the strongest players in the whole blitz. David's played exceptionally well with some spectacular tries and tackles. The final score was 4-2 to Clonkeen.
Finally, David’s made it to the semi-final and went up against the Clonkeen’s second team to conclude the blitz. They gave it their all and had incredible perseverance after a long day. The team had really improved by this match and their defense and organization was top notch. Unfortunately, Clonkeen came out with the win, scoring 5 tries to zero.
Despite an arduous day of rapid matches, spirits were high and David’s volunteered to play a friendly match against St. Colmcille’s, demonstrating their good sportsmanship and love for the sport. The team worked incredibly hard and vastly improved overall.
Thank you to Mr. Byrne for accompanying the lads and to Donnybrook for hosting. Well done lads and onwards and upwards!
