On the 22nd of January our First Year Girls' Soccer team headed down to Greystones United to play in a fierce match against local rivals, Greystones Community College.
The warm up was led by TY coaches Sophia Singh and Sarah McCloskey. They started off by gathering the girls into a circle and telling them the different drills they had to do. The girls practiced their passing to one another to prepare them and they also practiced shooting the ball into the net as the goalie tried to save their shot.
As soon as warmup was over the match started at 10 o'clock sharp. The girls were off to a great start having a lot of possession over the ball. Ciara Lehane scored an excellent goal starting off the match incredibly well for David’s. As the match went on the girls' communication on the pitch was excellent as they called each other's names for passing. Throughout the first half we had amazing saves from our goalie, however, unfortunately GCC scored a goal.
At half time the girls gathered around as they were given a pep talk by their coaches. They were told words of encouragement to keep up the good work and try to win as they were even.
The second half began with another goal for GCC. Although this was upsetting for the girls they kept their heads high, with a determination to win. Many great tactics throughout this match were shown. Sienna missed a free kick that was so close to becoming another goal. Towards the end of the match Saoirse Lehan Brennan scored a super goal. The final score of the match 2-3 to GCC .
Although the girls unfortunately did not win they had an excellent game and had great technique. A special shout-out to Georgia O'Gorman and Ciara Lehane for their amazing performance.
A big thank you to the TY coaches that helped coach the girls.
