We are very proud to be one of 57 pilot schools in the country who are providing Drama, Film and Theatre Studies as a Leaving Certificate Subject. Three fantastic students, Lucy Finnegan, Lochlan McCarthy and Caoimhe Curtis, who are studying this subject, have shown great initiative and interest in film and drama, both in school and outside - attending local workshops and working on projects in their spare time. Because of their hard work and talent, their short film ‘The Vigilantes’, filmed over just two weeks as part of their first school project, has been chosen by the Wicklow Stories Film Festival, to open the Festival on the 15th of November in The Whale Theatre. Not only that, but they have also been invited to be the official ushers at the film festival. This is a huge achievement for these brilliant students and we have no doubt that this is only the beginning of an exciting future for them in the creative arts. Well done Lucy, Lochlan and Caoimhe!
In the realm of Maths, we also have reason to celebrate another one of our 5th years. Tymek Kempa achieved a top score of 100% in the Irish Maths Teachers Association's Maggie Gough Competition. The Maggie Gough Competition is an online maths competition which tests the problem solving skills of Junior and Senior Cycle students. It is named after the first known Irish woman to receive a PhD in Mathematics – Maggie Gough (Sr Mary de Lellis Gough). Pictures of Tymek being presented with his IMTA trophy can be seen below. Well done, Tymek!
