On Tuesday the 24th of February, our Junior Girls’ camogie team faced Scoil Mhuire Clane in Éire Óg. They fought extremely hard right till the end, but unfortunately Scoil Mhuire Clane claimed the win.
The first half began with St. David’s conceding the first point of the game. However the girls quickly fought back and turned it up a notch, starting to make some fantastic plays. Moya Marrinan completed several great blocks, assisting Niamh Holohan in steadily pushing the play towards the opposition's goal. Julianne Creamer made an unbelievable save, driving the sliotar up the pitch. Siún Ní Dhálaigh performed skillful tackles which assisted Moya Marrinan in scoring a terrific point. Unfortunately with the wind against St. David’s in the first half, they were down by 4 goals and 2 points making the half time score 4:3 to 0:1
Their coach Mr. Crowe gave an inspirational talk, giving the girls confidence to go back out and try hard.
As the second half began, St. David’s came out strong and set the tempo for the second half. Moya Marrinan scored a great goal, just seconds after winning the opposition's puck out. Siún once again made an excellent tackle, passing to Niamh Holohan who attacked the wing, getting the ball to Moya Marrinan scoring yet another goal. St. David’s proceeded to score another point, and Tessa Mullins closed the match with a final point to David's which made the final score 4:6 to 2:4 in favour of Scoil Mhuire Clane.
Unfortunately our girls came up short of the win but they certainly did not give up and gave the match their best shot right till the very last minute.
Well done to the team for putting up such a strong fight, narrowing the score gap. A huge thanks to Mr. Crowe who has been coaching the girls and to Scoil Mhuire Clane who travelled to play us as well.
