East Leinster Races - April '24

St David’s was out in Santree for an athletics competition on the 29th of April 2024. The competition was split into different categories. The first event was Junior Girls 200m where we had Lena Gleeson compete. She made it look easy as she received 2nd place. It was a brilliant effort as she made it into the finals where she made a grade effort, coming in third place. Well done Lena! The next event was the Junior Boys 200m. The lads tried their best and gave it their all but were unfortunate not to come away with a podium place.

The next event was the Junior Girls 800m. We were up against many other neighbouring schools and we were unable to grab a place on the podium as our school got 4th place. Well done to those involved. The next event was Junior Boys 800m where we had James Dixon compete. He made a brilliant effort as he ran against competing schools and he was unlucky not to get a podium place or medal as he came up short in 6th place but it was a great effort nonetheless.

Apart from race-based activities, there was the Long Jump, Javelin, Shot Put and High Jump. From our school we had James Dixon and Seán Waters compete in Junior Boys Long Jump where they gave it their all and tried their very best to get a medal but were unsuccessful in their attempts. We had Lauren O’Leary compete in both Javelin and Shot Put where she gave it her best effort but she was unable to come away with the win, well done to all those involved!

Back to the races, we had U17’s Girls 800m next where we had TY Charlotte Hudson compete. She gave a great performance as she got 3rd in the race and as such received a bronze medal for her brilliant performance. Well done Charlotte! Onto the relays where we had our Junior Girls Relay team up first. We had Niamh O’Neill, Ella Andrews, Lena Gleeson and Laoise O’Gorman. They gave it their best shot and we were successful in their efforts. They got third and advanced through to the finals where they heartbreakingly came fourth and were unable to get a medal.

Next was the Junior Boys Relay team. They really tried their best coming up against neighbouring schools but they were unable to receive an award but they were undoubtedly brilliant.  We had our U17’s Girls Relay team compete where we had Lauren O’Leary, Eabha Hardie, Charlotte Hudson and Laoise O’Gorman. They gave it their all but they were unfortunate not to get a spot on the podium. We had the U17 Boys Relay team as our last competing team where we had Sarleya Barnard, Luca Kelly, Dylan Gleeson and Andrew Wall compete. They tried to the best of their ability but they were unable to win the race but great effort nonetheless!
