Junior Girls Rugby vs. Kilkenny College 20/11/25

On November 20th, the Junior Girls' rugby team travelled all the way to Kilkenny College for their cup quarter final.

The match started at 11:55. St. David’s received the ball and made some great attacking plays. Millie Free made an excellent tackle denying Kilkenny College an otherwise-certain try. Kilkenny College were then awarded a line out, unfortunately resulting in a try being scored. Moya Marrinan brought it back however with great tackles. Kilkenny knocked the ball on leading to a scrum on the 22 meter line, Rugile Lide broke through and scored a try. Unluckily for St. David’s Kilkenny College scored two more tries but only converted one. The first half finished with a score of 31-5 to Kilkenny College.

At half-time captain Lexi Lyons along with Ms. Collins gave an inspirational talk giving the girls confidence to go back out and try their absolute best in the second half.

The second half began and Kilkenny College unluckily got a try but St. David’s held up a good defense. Rugile Lide, Martyna Majcher and Isobel Keating kept running, successful in throwing the opposition team off. Millie Free then made an amazing tackle putting Kilkenny into touch. Éibhín Walsh made some excellent tackles also and Martyna turned over the ball which led to a try for St. David’s. Isobel Keating then scored the conversion. Niamh Holohan followed by scoring a try by sprinting through Kilkenny College’s line, Isobel Keating once again scored the conversion. Akvile Lide scored a try with Isobel Keating making the conversion ending the match with a score of 41-26 to Kilkenny College.

This result doesn’t reflect the hard work and effort the girls put into this match. A huge thanks to Ms. Collins who has been coaching the girls to get them to this point in the cup, and a massive well done to the girls.
