On the 8th of December, our Junior Girls' soccer team faced local rivals GCC in what proved to be a successful match, filled with opportunities to develop their already impressive skills and teamwork.
They arrived at 12:25 to a cold and windy Greystones United. They were led in a warm up by captain, Alanna Synnott, who left them motivated and ready to go. Alanna won the coin toss, allowing the girls to begin the match with the wind behind them and the sun away from their eyes.
GCC started with possession, however David’s quickly took control. The level of skill each player had was visible and their communication was exceptional, especially between players such as Aoife Wall and Laoise O’Gorman. The score line was opened after Mae Flynn broke through GCC’s defense and expertly shot the ball into the net. From there the girls could not be stopped. We saw amazing dribbling from Emily O’Driscoll and Alison Moran, who kept the ball in GCC’s half, leaving our goalie Lily Cullen more than comfortable. Laoise O’Gorman excelled in the first half, scoring an impressive hat-trick, two of which were assisted by Emily O’Driscoll. To close the first half, we saw Alison Moran score from a great long shot.
The girls entered half time confident and ready to carry the work rate into the next half. After some encouraging words from their coach Mr. Geoghegan, they returned to the pitch, looking forward to the second half.
Immediately it was apparent that David’s were not letting GCC get the upper hand. David’s kept the standard up and continued racking up goals on the scoreboard. Amazing goals were scored by Alanna Synnott, Mae Flynn and Alison Moran. This brought the score up to an impressive 8-0! The match ended at 2:10, leaving David’s victorious.
Overall the girls played fantastically, dominating the game from the first whistle. A massive well done to them and a big thank you to Mr. Geoghegan.
