On Friday the 27th of November, our Minor Boys' soccer team travelled to Arklow to play their final in the Wicklow/Wexford league against Wexford CBS.
St. David's started the match with tip, the boys began the match with high intensity and lots of teamwork. There was some excellent play from Alex Porter and Gethin Davies throughout the first half. Within the first 20 minutes of the match, Gethin Davies impressively assisted Andrew McCarren to go 1-0 up! It wasn't long before Wexford equalised to make it 1-1. The first half was very even with the ball equally between both ends of the pitch. At half time both sides were even with a score of 1-1.
Wexford CBS started off the second half with possession, and the St. David's boys got straight back into the game with some great defending and excellent play. It wasn’t long before Gethin Davies scored a tremendous goal to make it 2-1. The celebrations didn’t last long as Wexford quickly equalised and made it 2-2. There were some great performances from Andrew McCarren who was playing centre back, exceptional work rate from Ryan Goff in centre mid and a strong performance from Captain Chris O’Brien.
The game finished off all square so we headed into a nail biting extra time where the boys played an extra 10 minutes a half. Extra time began and both teams were eager to win. Wexford scored in the first half of extra time to make it 3-2. In the second half, despite St. David's boys best efforts they fell short at the end, making the final score 3-2 to Wexford CBS. Both sides were fantastic and it was a spectacular game of football.
Well done to the St. David's boys for an outstanding team performance and thank you to Mr. Brady for the commitment and enthusiasm he has put towards this team throughout the year!
