On May 20th, we celebrated the conclusion of an absolutely brilliant Transition Year.

Mr. Carey began the evening by praising the year group for their dedication, hard work and for building resilience by immersing themselves in what was an incredibly diverse and rewarding programme. He also reminded them to reflect on all they had achieved, both individually and collectively, and take with them all that they had gained from a magical Transition Year.

Ms. Courtney then took to the stage to congratulate each student on their achievements and contributions throughout the year. She spoke of the personal highlight it was to her to have had the privilege of having got to know them not just as students but as people. She praised their enthusiasm, drawing attention to their work on committees, the TY Yearbook and St Catherine’s, explaining that they fully embodied the ethos of getting out what they were willing to put in. She then revealed the nominees for Spirit of TY, with the winner to be announced at the end of the evening.

TY Year Head Mr. Short addressed the graduating class, commending the group for their energy and spirit and called attention to a number of highlights of the year. He thanked Mr. Carey, Mr. Davies and Ms. O’Sullivan for their hard work and support, as well as the commitment of Ms. Courtney as coordinator. He concluded his speech by wishing all students the best as they begin the next steps of their time in school, reminding them to retain the confidence, courage and teamwork that they displayed so consistently throughout the past year.

After the presentation of gifts to tutors, management and the TY leadership team, it was time for the presentation of certificates and folders of achievement to each student. After this, Beth and Jennifer had the chance to present the penultimate award of the evening - the YSI Sportswoman of the Year, presented to Hazel Prendergast. To conclude the evening, Ms. Courtney returned to the stage to reveal the winner of Spirit of TY, awarded this year to Clark Kelly.
