On Thursday, May 15th, we gathered to celebrate the achievements of the St David’s community at our annual Presentation Day. The afternoon began with an introduction from Mr. Carey, outlining how the awards that were to be handed out were reflective of the four pillars that underpin everything we do in the school: academic excellence, ethos, the arts and sports.
The day represented an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of vital groups such as Young SVP and YSI, while social groups such as the Lego Club and the 3D Printing Club enjoyed some well-deserved time in the spotlight. Both competitive and recreational sports were also given adulation. The diversity of our sporting programme was reflected in the plethora of talent on show; from basketball to badminton, sailing to Irish dancing, today was truly a showcase of St David’s finest.
In the realm of academics, Alannah Lynch saw her remarkable victory at Sci-Fest receive recognition, while she and her teammates on the recently-crowned F1 in Schools National Champion winners received an ovation as they paraded their trophy in front of a packed Sports Arena. The undoubted talent was only further underscored by the array of worthy award winners for outstanding achievement in each subject taught in the school.
In the final portion of the day, we had the opportunity to highlight special achievements of outstanding success. The hotly-contested Team of the Year title saw a first for Presentation Day: a perfectly balanced tie that led to both the 1st Year Boys’ GAA team and the 1st Year Boys’ Soccer team being jointly awarded the honour. A host of worthy nominees were in contention for the Gerard Scully Sportsperson of the Year but it was ultimately Fil-Euro International Basketball sensation Calvin Medidas who walked away with the prestigious award.
Finally, the day concluded with the revealing of the incoming Student Liaison Team. Paddy Marrinan and Finn Morris were appointed Deputy Head Boys while Ellie Hall and Grace McDermott were appointed Deputy Head Girls. Our Head Girl for the forthcoming academic year will be Kate McAdam and Rian O’Gorman will be our Head Boy.
Well done to each and every award winner for the incredible hard work and dedication over the past year!
