On the 14th of May, Mr. Carey opened the much-anticipated annual Presentation Day here in our school. He gave a warm welcome to the entire student and staff body and congratulated everyone for such a successful year.

The ceremony commenced with the issuing of the prestigious Margaret Aylward award. This award is presented to one student from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Year in recognition of their outstanding achievements and for embodying the four pillars of our school. A massive well done to Seán McDonagh from First Year, Connie Lewis from Second Year, Siún Ní Dhálaigh from Third Year and Ella Andrews from Fifth Year for all of their hard work and dedication.

The next portion of prizes were surrounding academic excellence. An award was given to both a Junior and Senior student in every subject for making significant progress and excelling in the particular subject area.

Following on from the academic awards, the Arts Coordinator Ms. Cronly gave a speech thanking everyone for participating in the Arts programme throughout the year and encouraged those who may not have been part of it this year, to jump in and try something new next year. Students were acknowledged for their remarkable achievements in areas such as Visual Arts, Debating, YSI, Spanish Club, Club Gaeilge, Lego Club, Young Scientist, F1, Choir and Music Club.

For the Transition Years, the long-awaited awards for ‘Shrek the Musical’ were presented. The students outdid themselves this year and the teachers were forced to give awards to multiple students. Katie Heffernan, Sam McDermott, James Ward and Doireann Purcell, otherwise known as Pinocchio, Donkey, Shrek and Fiona, all receive the title of ‘Spirit of the Musical’. The ‘Rising Star’ award was presented to both Fiachra O’Sullivan and Lucy Plunkett and Mae Browner was presented with the well deserved ‘Outstanding Performance’ prize. A special mention was also given to both Emily O’Reilly and Lena Gleeson for their commendable work backstage and with the props.

The ceremony was close to completion as Mr. Brady opened the Sports category with a huge congratulations and thank you to all the staff and students for their participation and commitment to sports this year. The numbers taking part increased again this year which highlights the interest and importance that sport has in our school. The coordinators for each sport came to the stage to announce the winners of each award. Five Sixth Year students anxiously awaited the announcement of the winner of the Gerard Scully award. This is presented to a student in Sixth Year who has shown excellence, commitment and hard work throughout their time in school within sports. It was awarded to a well deserved Holly Sheehy.

Mr. Dunne then came to the podium to announce the class winners for our recent Sports Day. Classes 1C, 2D, 3B, 4B, 5B and 6C were all victorious within their year groups but the overall winners was 3B. The wooden spoon is given every year to the class with the least amount of points and this year 4A were the unfortunate winners. Also a huge well done to Mr. Byrne’s 1st year rugby team who received the title for ‘Team of the Year’.

Mr. Carey took centre stage again to announce the 26 Fifth Year prefects for the 26/27 academic year. The numbers are higher than ever as a significant number of TYs put themselves forward for the role.

Finally it was time to announce the incoming Senior Liaison team for next year. James O’Farrell, Rowan Carr, Matilda Gustafsson and Rachel John will be our new Deputy Head Boys and Deputy Head Girls and Ewan McAdam and Ella Andrews will be our new Head Boy and Head Girl respectively.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this day possible and a massive well done to all who received an award today!
