The Minor Boys' Football team kicked off their league this week with their first match against Blackrock College, on the 17th of October 2025.
The boys’ spirits were high as they launched their campaign off the back of their title victory last season. Kick-off was at 10:30 and St. David's started strongly, with great performances from Jack Williams, seeing Ryan Goff nearly scoring within minutes. The lads showed great skill throughout the first half and perfectly executed the drills and formations they practice in their weekly training every Monday with their coach Mr. Brady. St David's were met with a tough attack from Blackrock College but managed to hold the defensive line and ended the first half with another near goal from Sean Brady, closing with a score of 0-0.
After the half time whistle blew the lads were off to a great start. Their defensive lines were unbreakable and Blackrock was no match to Ross Kavanagh, our goal keeper, who made amazing saves all throughout the second half.
Multiple free kicks were taken by Rhisper Barnard and a near goal from Chris O’Brien gave the boys motivation to keep on pushing towards extra time. Starting off extra time with a bang we saw the dream team, Jack Williams who assisted Sean Levins in an award winning goal. Although the boys scored Blackrock College fought back and secured their first goal of the game ending extra time with 1-1.
With a score of 1-1 both of the teams took to the pitch to take penalties, with great scores from Rhisper Barnard, Chris O’Brien, Conor O'Farrell, Jack Williams and Ryan Goff. The nail biting penalties resulted in Blackrock College winning from the last penalty taken.
This unlucky result does not reflect the boys' hard work they put into their matches and training every Monday evening with Mr. Brady. They played incredibly and made our school proud.
We would like to thank both Mr. Brady for taking the time and training the boys, and to Greystones United football club for allowing us to use their facilities each week for matches and training sessions.
