Senior Girls Gaelic Vs CCM

On Thursday the 6th of November, the senior girls Gaelic football squad led by Ms. O’Gorman made the trip down to Coláiste Chill Mhántáin for their first match of the season. The girls arrived at the pitch with plenty of time for warm ups, which was led by Holly Sheehy. The game kicked off at 10:20 with both teams rearing to go.

 CCM started off very strong with a goal in the first two minutes, but this did not rattle St. David's in the slightest, as the girls put relentless pressure on the opposing side. We had some great attacking plays and shots going just wide by Moya Marrinan. The immense pressure began to pay off for the girls as Holly Sheehy scored an amazing goal and a point followed quickly after from Lauren O’Leary. 

The play was back and forth between the two teams, and unfortunately a few scores were conceded. The girls' heads never dropped and we had some outstanding saves from Ciara Fitzgerald who stepped up to be goalkeeper in the first half. The chances kept coming for David's, as more points were scored by Aoife Fox, Lauren O’Leary and Moya Marrinan. The first half finished 3-6 to 4-4 in St. David's favor.

The girls started the second half well after inspiring words from Ms. O’Gorman and a few players. David’s dominated the defensive play with clearances from Sarah Duff and Lena Gleeson. Their ability to combat pressure was excellent. The midfield continued the exceptional standard set by the defense and amazing runs through the center of the pitch were made by both Charlotte Hudson and Millie Free.  

CCM fought back strongly and won numerous scores, but a strong shot from Moya Andrews that hit the post was put away nicely by Holly Sheehy which kept the girls in the game. 

The last ten minutes proved to be tough for the squad as CCM put in everything they had to try to make a comeback. Shoutout to Grace O’Neill for the amazing tackles she put in. Unfortunately, the game did not go their way and there were only two points in it in the end, but it was an outstanding team performance from all the players and they should all be very proud of their efforts. 

A huge thank you to CCM for facilitating the match and Ms. O’Gorman for coaching the girls. They should all be extremely proud of themselves!
