Senior Girls' Rugby vs Wesley College

On the 5th of March Ms Dempsey's Senior Girls' rugby team took on Wesley College in a very exciting plate quarter final. 


After a strong team warm up and an inspiring team talk, the girls had their game faces on. At 2pm sharp, captain Holly Goodwin kicked off to start a nail-biting match. Both teams were eager to be the first to score. Following a quick tap, Holly Goodwin managed to get the first try of the game just after 5 minutes. There was some incredible defence from centre Millie Mahony and flanker Saorla Purcell but unfortunately Wesley managed to score. Ella Andrews made a flawless run and managed to get the next score for St David's. Wesley answered this straight away with a try of their own. After some great passing Millie Mahony made a break for the try line to get St David's their 3rd try. With 2 minutes to go to half time Wesley managed to get another try meaning the score was 19-19 going into half time.



St David's lined the pitch ready for the 2nd half. 5 minutes went by with no score. After some incredible backline passing Aoife Fox threw a long pass out to winger Sarah Duff. Sarah Duff leaped towards the corner flag to get St David's there 4th try of the match to make the score 24-19 to St David's. Wesley College came back stronger then ever. They scored another try to make it 24-26. Unfortunately Wesley managed to score again making the game 24-31. St David's kept their heads high but Wesley gathered the ball to score again making it 24-36. The girls kept calm and with 5 minutes to go Ella Andrews ran a perfect line and gathered the ball to score a try for St David's.Holly Goodwin converted to make the score 31-36 to Wesley. With 2 minutes to go the girls were ready to make an epic comeback. Wesley kicked off and managed to get a penalty. Wesley made a break down the line but winger Sarah Duff made a try saving tackle. Wesley made a mistake which brought them back into their own 22. Helena Iglesias Vazquez made an incredible tackle to keep them under pressure.




Suddenly the referee raised his hand for a David's penalty. With 1 minute to go Holly  Goodwin took the quick tap and a gap opened up right in front of her. She dove right under the posts to make it 36-36. The time was up and everyone watched anxiously as Holly lined up for her conversion. The ball sailed between the posts and David's were onto the Semis. 


A huge congratulations to the girls and a big thank you to Ms Dempsey, Ms O'Gorman and Mr Davies.
