On the 14th of October, Mr. Ó'Donnchadha's senior girls soccer team travelled out to Rathmines, Dublin to play against a formidable Alexandra College side for their first match of the Senior Girls' soccer season.
Prior to kick-off, team captain Sarah Duff led the warm up a notable tenacity and intensity. In what proved to be a tightly-contested first half, the girls put in a strong performance. Both teams had equal possession of the ball, leading to many chances for by both teams. Alexandra were continually kept at bay thanks to a string of impressive saves from our goalkeeper, Maria.
Over the second half Aaliyah and Siliem combined brilliantly to keep the pressure on our opponents, pinning them back into the opposition's half. They were ably supported by Sarah D, Sophia Sing and Sarah M, who defended brilliantly throughout the whole of the second half, especially when Alexandra gained a stronger foothold as the match wore on. Unfortunately, the girls went on to lose in the closing stages of the game but will be hugely encouraged by the teamwork and promise on display in their first game back on the field.
