St David’s vs Willow Park in 1st Year Boys Soccer

On Tuesday the 18th of November our 1st Year Boys' soccer team played against the tough opposition of Willow Park in what turned out to be a match that was full of learning opportunities asshowed the lads the areas that they can continue to improve upon for the rest of the year.

St David’s were put under pressure from the start as Willow Park mounted attack after attack, however David’s soaked up the pressure making some great clearances and tackles. They were rewarded when Cian McLaughlin intercepted a pass from the keeper and expertly curled the ball into the top corner. Willow Park fought back to reestablish their early control of the game and managed to score as the first half came to an end.

David’s started well in the second half but despite their effort couldn’t break through Willow Park’s tough defense. In the second half both teams exchanged half chances, with David’s tirelessly working the ball up the pitch. As the second half continued it looked more and more like neither team would break through the stalemate, but in the last few minutes Willow Park broke through and scored, winning them the game.

Although the lads unfortunately weren’t the victors in this one, they will be able to take the lessons they learned in this game into their shield fixtures and through the rest of the year. Well done lads, onwards and upwards!
