On Tuesday the 10th of March, our full group of Transition Year students set off for the annual trip to Russborough House. It was a fun day out for all as a reward for the hard work everyone put into ‘Shrek the Musical’ the week before.

All students and teachers met in the foyer after tutorial to separate themselves into groups of 12 for activities, before making their way to the bus for 9:00 am.

After a long and scenic drive to Blessington, the TYs met their instructors, set their bags down in their tents, and wasted no time in getting into their activities! The activities for the day included kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, ziplining, a ropes course, archery, and a campfire with roasted marshmallows!

Students tested their rowing and teamwork skills on the lake, managing to get themselves soaked in the process. After a quick outfit change and a lunch break everyone got re-energised and ready to get going. Students began with archery, then zip-lining, and rock climbing for the afternoon. Though some of the lads were afraid of heights, with some encouragement from their friends and instructors they managed to face their fears and get down the 100m zip-line. Everyone then enjoyed a campfire and roasted marshmallows, which was a perfect way to end the day and proved to be a highlight of the trip, especially if you managed to sneak a few extra marshmallows!

Everyone then reconvened in the courtyard for a quick group photo before making their way to the bus at around 4:00pm for a very tired drive home. Overall it was an amazing day out and great fun for all staff and students involved. We would like to sincerely thank Russborough House for accommodating us, and especially their staff and instructors for being so helpful and friendly. A massive thank you as well to our TY coordinator Ms. Courtney for organising the trip, and the rest of the teachers who came along with us.
