On the 5th of November, our First Year boys' GAA team travelled down to Blessington to compete in a tense game against Blessington Community College.
The match began and Blessington forged ahead, scoring a goal in the first 30 seconds. The boys didn't let this affect them and continued playing as a united team. Ethan McCann managed to put the boys right back into the game by scoring the first point for David’s. The game was neck and neck with Blessington always keeping a tiny bit ahead, however the boys could not be stopped and continued to apply the pressure. Paddy Johnston kept his determination throughout the whole match, scoring many frees off the ground and keeping the team motivated.
At half time, the boys were down by 7 points but after a positive and motivating team talk given by their coach Mr. Lawless the lads ran straight back onto the pitch with their head held high.
The whole team put every ounce of effort they had left into the game and fought throughout the whole of the second half, keeping the goals and points coming. With only 10 minutes left Blessington were 3 points in the lead till Paddy was given a free. He narrowly missed a score, hitting the cross bar. The boys fought hard for the rebound and tapped it into the goal leaving the game equal again, both teams had the opportunity to get the win. The boys kept pushing and managed to secure a lead, which ultimately gave them the well deserved and hard fought for win.
Massive mention to their goalkeeper Noah Byrne for staying confident and determined while being under so much pressure.
A big thank you to Blessington Community College for giving the David’s lads such a tough match, and to their coach Mr. Lawless for leading the boys to success. Well done lads!
