Over the St. Patrick's long weekend, 38 of our 5th year students got up bright and early to jet off to the wonderful Munich, Germany.
From the moment we landed in Munich airport, the excitement was through the roof. We started off our journey by heading to the Allianz Arena football stadium, where we got to experience what it’s like for players and got a tour around the stadium. During the tour, we got to explore areas usually reserved for players and staff, including the locker rooms, the tunnel leading onto the pitch and the press room. We then headed to the centre of Munich where we grabbed a bite to eat and experienced traditional German food. Ending the day with a guided tour of the beautiful city where we got to see the remarkable landmarks, traditional shops and the display of German culture.
One of the many highlights of the trip was going to the BMW Museum and Welt where we got to see the evolution of the BMW models over the years and how much they have changed and improved in technology. We then headed to the Olympic Shopping Centre where we had time to shop before going to the Sap Garden for a few hours of Ice Skating fun, where some people clearly had more talent than others.
On the third day of our trip we visited the Neuschwanstein Castle, where we arrived to a nice snowy surprise. We then made the hike up the 35 minute trail to the castle, while taking in the lovely snowy mountain views. We then got to explore the insides of the castle with a guided tour educating us on the history of the castle. Later in the day, we went to Tegelberg Bahn for the Cable car which had amazing views. We could see over all the mountains. Once at the top we couldn’t resist but to have a snowball fight and take in the snow fully with our friends.
On the last day of the trip we went to the Dachau Concentration Camp where we got a guided tour of the grounds and were educated on everything that had happened in this time in history. We then finished off the trip on a high by going to the Therme Erding Water Park Galaxy, which contains some of Europe’s largest water slides - one of the highlights of the trip!
Of course, it wasn’t all about the sights – the trip was packed with laughter, friendship and unforgettable memories. The students were a credit to the school throughout, showing great curiosity, enthusiasm and resilience (especially during the early morning starts!). A huge thank you to the teachers who organised and accompanied us the trip.
