The students of the Green Schools committee participated in a clean up on the South Beach in Greystones on the 19th of September, under the watchful eye of Mr Short. Before going out to the beach they received a motivating and informative talk from an official from the movement “#bigbeachclean”. They then went out to the South Beach and filled bin bags with all the litter collected, which was then disposed of responsibly after the clean up.
Although the weather was rainy and cold, our students happily walked the entire length of the beach reaching the point connecting the walk to Kilcoole. They were able to record the data of what was collected on the beach and the bags will be weighed to determine how much waste was collected. They were broken up into small groups to improve efficiency. As well as that, our students also walked the pavement of the south beach and made sure no rubbish was left on the ground after finishing the beach and heading back to the school. Overall it was a great experience for the members of the committee who thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the beach, many residents of Greystones went out of their way to thank the helpers for the work they were doing. Thank you to Mr. Short for organising this excursion, and to the officials from movement “#bigbeachclean” for their time and assistance.
