Junior Boys' Soccer vs Temple Carrig

On Friday the 7th of November, the Junior Boys football team, led by Mr. Cahill, played a much anticipated local derby against Temple Carrig.

The match kicked off at 2:15 and the boys had a very strong start and looked like the better team. A corner was won in the first minute of the game but unfortunately didn't come to anything in the end. The play was back and forth between the two teams and looked like the match could go in any direction, until Luca Martin scored a goal to give St. David's the upper hand over their local rivals within the first ten minutes. Temple Carrig fought back immediately and scored minutes after to level the game. The opposition kept up the pressure and had many chances which were stopped by great defensive play by Lewis More O’Ferrall but the team couldn't keep Temple Carrig out and they scored another goal. This didn't dampen their spirits and there was a lot of composed play and passes in the midfield from Conor McLaughlin. The boys were unlucky not to equalise as Jack Corrigan hit the crossbar after an in-swinging free kick from outside the box. Despite this, they kept their heads up even after conceding another goal before half time.

They fought back hard in the second half, even through the bad weather and Luca Martin scored another goal by dribbling through several defenders and slotting the ball through the keeper's legs. The tension was high on the pitch and both Ben McLaren and Damiano Martin kept Temple Carrig from scoring again from their clean tackles and passing. Conor McLaughlin scored the final goal of this high scoring game after he knocked the ball into the back of the net after a cross from an outstanding run down the left wing by Oisín Duff.

Unfortunately, St. David's did not come out on top on the day and the game ended 6-3. A huge thank you to Greystones United for facilitating us with the pitch and to Mr. Cahill for coaching the team.
