On Thursday the 5th of February, the Junior Boys’ soccer team traveled to Wexford CBS to face off in the semi final of a knock out round match to enter a cup final. The weather was not on their side, giving the lads an even tougher opposition - an orange weather warning!
They had a quick warm up with motivational words coming from co coach of the day Jamie Lynch and Coach Mr. Cahill. Soon after, the match kicked off at 11:20 with Captain Eoghan Waters, bringing high spirits and hope of winning after the tragic loss of the senior team the week before.
The game started very evenly with Damiano and Luca Martin holding David's to a high standard with Jack Corrigan nearly scoring early on which gave the team a push to keep going.
The match continued on with Leo Duffy making amazing saves but unfortunately Wexford CBS scored 20 minutes in with them scoring again soon after leaving the half time score 0-2.
The second half began after Mr. Cahill gave them a spectacular pep talk at half time. Immediately Conor McLaughlin was on the ball, nearly scoring. The sideline started supporting the team with good commentary from Dafydd Davies and Jamie Lynch. Thanks to their words of wisdom , Eoghan Waters scored from his own half! This left St. David’s enthusiastic with Ben McClaren , Oisin Duff and Dafydd Davies nearly scoring but unfortunately Wexford were able to make a break and score again.
The score left the team tired and Jack Corrigan got his second yellow leaving the team 1 man down. Wexford scored one last time and the match ended soon after leaving the final score at 4-1.
The score does not reflect the lads hard work and commitment, St. David's will have more matches trying to secure the shield! Thank you very much to coach Mr. Cahill, to Wexford CBS and to the boys for giving it their all.
