On Tuesday the 12th of May, our Junior Girls' Gaelic team faced Loreto Bray for the Wicklow League Final which was held in Bray Emmets. The girls played absolutely incredibly against an extremely tough opposition.

The game kicked off and Naoise Morris immediately got involved, making an amazing block denying Loreto a scoring opportunity. Heather Stokes followed suit by making an unbelievable save, leading to a 45’ which St. David’s shut down immediately. Aoife Wall scored a point after an outstanding attacking play. Heather Stokes continued to impress, once again making a goal line clearance. Niamh Holahan then proceeded to score a point. St. David’s closed the first half off with a decisive goal from Aoife Wall.

The first half finished with a score of 1:4 to 1:2 to Loreto Bray. The two teams were extremely balanced and David’s knew that they would need to step up their game. Mr. Geoghegan gave an inspirational talk at half time as well as structured feedback which gave the girls confidence to get back out and try their best in the second half.

The second half began with amazing tackles from both Chloe Byrne and Naoise Morris. Moya Marrinan managed to steal the ball at the half way line where she proceeded to make a great run up the pitch, leading to her scoring a point. The girls won the opposition's kick outs which gained two more points from St. David’s. Isobel Keating scored a goal to finish off the game.

Although the girls played spectacularly, it was unfortunately not our day as Loreto took the win, with a result of 3:9 to 2:4. This score-line does not reflect the girls immense effort and takes nothing away from the world class performance that pushed Loreto to their limits.

Thank you so much to Loreto Bray for an incredible match and a huge thanks to Mr. Geoghegan for coaching the girls this year and getting them this far !
