On Tuesday, 16th of December, we had one final chance to mark the success of the Class of 2025. With 106 H1s and 42 students receiving awards, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Following their outstanding results achieved in the Leaving Certificates in August, tonight represented a time to acknowledge the product of our students’ incredible hard work over their time in St. David’s. It also served as a wonderful time to reunite past pupils, parents and teachers alike during the festive season.
The evening began with a wine reception in the foyer, ably supported by our 5th Year prefects. We were then greeted by Mr. Carey, who spoke of the unique timing of this year’s event, allowing everyone to take a break from the busyness of the Christmas period and reflect on the achievements of the last year. He also reminded us of the importance of celebrating academic excellence as well as being able to share such a proud moment with family members, who provided so much support over the previous 6 years of secondary school.
Ms. O’Sullivan spoke about the joy it was to hear about what paths everyone had been taking and their first post-school experiences. She then began presenting awards to each of our students who achieved H1s in a host of subjects.
Following this, we witnessed the presentation of the awards to the student in each base class who achieved the highest amount of H1s. The winners this year are:
6A: Nathan Donlon
6B: Colm O'Neill
6C: Alison Finnerty
6D: Cathal Murphy
6E: Alannah Gallagher & Caitlin Doyle
Mr. Carey concluded by outlining the background of the Paul Ellis Award, presented to the student who achieved the highest amount of H1 grades in the year group. The award commemorates a much-loved past pupil, who tragically lost his life whilst preparing for his medical studies. The joint-winners of the Paul Ellis Award this year are Colm O’Neill and Nathan Donlon.
