Our latest Minor Boys' soccer match took place on Monday the 15th with an 11am kickoff. In the first half the lads asserted dominance early on, with quick passing and determined defending especially displayed by Ryan Goff. The defense was organised and disciplined and had a clean sheet to show for it. Andrew McCarron was formidable, with massive headers defensively from centre back. In the first half, clear-cut chances in the opposition’s penalty area were hard to come by and shots were taken from distance, however all were dealt with ease by the keeper. Good offensive runs and attacks were made and supported by Seán Levins. They were unlucky not to get a goal early on.
In the second half chances were much more common at both ends. The defense was supported by our keeper Ross Kavanagh who stopped the opposition from scoring in big 1 v 1 game deciders. In the end John Byrne crossed the perfect assist for an outstanding header made by Jack Williams, who finished an unsaveable shot into the bottom corner from point blank range. The boys denied the Killian’s lads from getting a sniff at goal through to the final whistle and the game ended 1 - 0. This brought the Minor team to 2nd in their group.Â
Big well done to the lads for their performance and massive thanks to organisers for the astro pitch.Â
