Seachtain na Gaeilge a bhí ann an tseachtain seo. Over the last number of days we, as a school community have celebrated everything to do with Irish culture, whether it be through traditional music, dance, Gaeilge and more. Every year group was involved in activities to celebrate this very important and special week.

Each morning was opened on the intercom by students giving a small statement in Irish while we heard the ‘seanfhocail’ of the day, for example 'níl aon tintean mar do thintean féin'. This really set the tone of the day and allowed many students to get involved and show off their exceptional Gaeilge. As well as that, in the mornings our extremely talented traditional music group played some beautiful music for all to hear in the foyer led by Ms. Woods. Is grúpa an-chumasach sibh!

Our 1st years participated in a keenly-contested poster competition, for which they crafted beautiful creations, each displaying a seanfhocail or culturally inspired picture . On Wednesday we saw 6th class from St. Bridget's join us in our school library, competing in an Irish quiz. They were tested on general knowledge, sport, locations and more, all as Gaeilge. They were all awarded with a selection of treats and an easter egg for the overall winners.

We were very fortunate this week to receive a visit from the impressive author and musician Tristan Rosenstock. He gave two sets of workshops to our transition years, describing his process as an author and talking about his book ‘Inis Mara’, giving a sneak peak into his new project. He also performed alongside our traditional music group, which was absolutely fantastic.

Our 6th and 5th years were extremely busy this week with lots of different activities. The 6th years had a workshop on sraith pictiúrs, and were also given a workshop by former staff member Seamus Hyland on Irish music and dance. The 5th years were also given this amazing workshop. As well as that, both years enjoyed Club Gaeilge in which they played bingo and had Comhrá as Gaeilge.

At 1:05 on Friday, we saw a pop up gaeltacht in the school library. All students were encouraged to get involved and celebrate such a successful week by participating in fun and games while conversing in Irish.

Overall this week was a massive success, allowing students to really immerse themselves in Irish culture and freely show appreciation for every element of Irish heritage. Thank you so much to Ms. Woods especially, and to all the speakers who came in to talk to students. As well as that, thank you to the traditional music club and to everyone who got involved this week. Go raibh maith agaibh agus maith sibh go léir!
