On the 10th of December, the Senior Girls Gaelic team made the short trip down to the Eire Óg pitches to face against East Glendalough in the semi-final of their Wicklow Schools' League.
The Girls had the tough challenge of playing into the blustery wind in the ice cold conditions for the first half of the match. With Captain Lauren O'Leary making a fantastic first run to start off the match, David's obtained the first score of the game from Caoimhe Davis. A penalty was awarded to East Glendalough but goalkeeper Aaliyah Condron was not fazed and made an excellent save to keep East Glendalough scoreless. The girls continued to dominate the first half of the game with points from Holly Sheehy, Lauren O'Leary and Ella Andrews, supplemented with another goal from Caoimhe Davis. St David's' goalie Aaliyah Condron made some excellent saves backed up by defence from Sarah Duff and the rest David's back line. Two scrappy goals by Lauren O'Leary ensured the girls finished the first half out comfortably.
As the team lined out for the second half, the girls maintained their energy from the first half and continued to dominate the match with ease. Although East Glendalough came out onto the pitch with a newfound determination, David's replacement goalie Aoife Fox continued to prevent any opportunities for goals. With further points from Lauren O Leary, Holly Sheehy, Caoimhe Davis, Niamh Kelly and Aisling Casey, it seemed a win for the David's team was inevitable. Following the final whistle, David's girls lined up to shake hands with East Glendalough and to celebrate a well-earned win which means they will now compete in the Wicklow final.
A very big thank you to Miss O'Gorman for her excellent guidance and coaching with the team ultimately leading to such a great win!
