Sports Day 2026

Despite the nervous refreshing of weather apps throughout the week, we completely avoided the rain and were able to stage our annual Sports Day on Friday 8th of May. With students across all year groups primed and suitably motivated by their tutors, each class made their way down to Eire Og to put their physical limits to the test.
Amidst a fun-filled atmosphere, students threw, hopped, ran and dodged their way through a gauntlet of events, striving to win those vital points for the base class trophy. It wasn’t long before our first medal winners began collecting their prizes from Ms. Kane, Ms. Crossan and Ms. Foynes, with a well-earned congratulations to go with them. For our 1st Years, it was their first taste of sporting greatness in a day steeped in tradition; for our 6th Years, it represented one final opportunity to settle long-standing friendly rivalries and assert their supremacy once and for all.
After several hours of relentless activity, it was time for our 1st - 5th years to conclude their events and witness one the defining events of the global sporting calendar: the female staff and 6th year girls squaring off in a best-of-three tug of war contest. Secret footage of the 6th years’ practice sessions had accidentally leaked on the school’s Instagram account only days prior, though some are speculating this was an elaborate attempt at mind games. In the end, despite an incredibly competitive series of battles, the teachers ultimately walked away with a 2-0 victory.
Later in the afternoon, it was the turn of the 6th year boys, whose game against the male teachers has recently caused FIFA president Gianni Infantino to express concern that it may overshadow the build up to this summer’s World Cup. Despite very confident predictions of a comfortable win for the students, it proved to be a tight affair, with the teachers putting in a strong performance throughout. In the end, a solitary second half Rian O’Gorman strike was enough for the students to seal the victory and bring an end to Sports Day 2026.
Well done to every student who participated and each staff member who contributed to making the whole day possible!
