St David's Christmas Concert 2024

This Friday, the 20th of December, St David’s held its highly-anticipated end of term Christmas Concert. This cheerful concert is a lovely way to highlight the talent we have within our school and encourages people to put themselves out there and try something new. It’s safe to say that the Christmas cheer could be felt throughout the sports arena.

The event kicked off around 10:30 with the Deputy Head Girl, Freya Duffy, welcoming everyone to the concert. This was then followed by the Biblical story of the birth of Jesus narrated beautifully by the Senior Student Liaison Team, to accompany this ‘Silent Night’ was played on the flute. Sean Costello recited a message about the importance of family during the Christmas period.

We swiftly moved on to all of our impressive musical performances. Over 80 students performed in the Christmas concert with just shy of fifteen songs being sung.  There were students from the Music Club, the Choir, the Trad Group and even a new band called Solace. It is truly remarkable to hear all the amazing talent in our school. There was an amazing range of songs too! There were covers of songs such as ‘This Town’ by Niall Horan, ‘Linger’ by The Cranberries and ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ by Mariah Carey. Impressively, there was outstanding original songs sung too, for example, ‘Lost at Sea’ written by Willow Evans, ‘Hey Missus’ by Solace and Mr. Noonan’s ‘Markings on the Sand’.

There were a few announcements made during the concert too. The students and tutorial teachers were eagerly anticipating the result of the Christmas Door Decoration Competition. Mr. Hallisey’s 6C won the ‘Grinch Award’ for the worst door. The junior winner was 3D, Ms. Cronly’s class and the senior winner was Mr. Dowling’s 4A. The library won the best non-tutorial door. Mr. Davies thanked the students and staff for a wonderful school term and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Then Mr. Carey urged the students to relax after a busy term and reminded them to stay safe over the break.

Last but certainly not least the band of enthusiastic, dedicated and fun teachers put on a performance of a lifetime! They expertly sang ‘The Fairytale of New York’ with Mr. O’ Donnacha on the guitar and Ms. Cronly on the drums. After this was over, the students were delighted to see the pile of selection boxes behind them. There was one for everyone in the audience, and so the students exited the sports arena, selection box in hand, ready for their well deserved break!

On behalf of the Media Team we would like to wish everybody a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
