St. David's vs Loreto Foxrock in Junior Girls' Soccer

On the 2nd of December, the Junior Girls' football team, coached by Mr. Geoghegan travelled to Loreto Foxrock for what proved to be a tantalising and exciting match. Kick off was at 12:40pm and captain, Grace O’Neill led the girls in a warm up to help prepare them for the match ahead.

St. David's took to the pitch and within minutes we saw phenomenal saves from our goalie, Hazel Prendergast and a goal from Emily O’Driscoll carried the team to a steady lead in the match. Despite the bitter conditions that the girls were playing in, the girls held their own. There were especially strong defensive skills displayed by Ella Mullen and Alanna Synnott. Multiple shots from Lena Gleeson and Niamh O’Neill put the opposing team under pressure as the half time whistle came closer. A goal was awarded from Chloe Byrne as a result of a corner taken by Naoise Morris closing the first half with a score of 2-2.

With some words of wisdom from Mr. Geoghegan, the girls started the second half with passion and soared through defense lines, displaying amazing teamwork. Outstanding performances from Emily O’Driscoll, Naoise Morris and Mae Browner are to be noted also. With a score of 2-2 the girls worked together with unbreakable defensive lines and great offense, the girls managed to keep the score of 2-2 into extra time.

To open extra time we saw award winning goals from Mae Browner and Cliona Foy lifting the team's spirit to carry on for the final minutes of extra time. A special well done to Emily O’Driscoll for a superb performance all throughout the match.

The girls managed to take the win home with a final score of 4-2 and we would like to take the time to thank Mr. Geoghegan for coaching the girls every week. Very well done girls.
