This week the 3rd-7th of November in St. David’s it was Stand Up Week! When students arrived on Monday morning, the foyer was beautifully decorated with pride balloons, banners and a word wall with LGBTIQIA+ in many different languages.
On Monday there was exceptional music in the foyer at lunch time hosted by the GSA and music club.
On Wednesday there was an inter-school movie social with GSA members from the local schools of Greystones Community College and Temple Carrig, fuelled by delicious popcorn in Ms. Carey’s art room.
On Thursday SHOUT OUT gave a workshop to all 3rd year classes on gender identity. At lunch time there was a fantastic pizza party hosted by GSA for LGBTQIA+ allies in Ms. Carey’s art room. TY 4A and 4B had a workshop on diversity and inclusion given by Emer O’Neill organised by Greystones Family Resource Centre.
On Friday Emerald Warriors who are a queer rugby team came to speak to all 5th years. They got a great insight on the players' lives.
Throughout the week SPHE classes were invited to provide LGBTQIA+ content and educate classes on the topic.
Overall it was an extremely successful and enjoyable week, bringing our school together through acceptance and understanding.
