Think Languages Week 2025

Our annual Think Languages Week began on the 17th of November. This week is for everyone to celebrate different cultures from all around the globe.

We started with a bang. On Tuesday the 18th, the TYs participated in Flamenco dancing. It was superb, as the TYs were enriched with Spanish culture - a great way to start the week. Every single student really got engaged, dressing up and picking up on the dancing straight away.

On Thursday, the TYs had another dancing class, this time with Japanese traditional dancers. It was fantastic; they learned some Japanese and were taught about Japanese culture before jumping into trying the dancing. Six TYs in each group were given the option to dress up in traditional Japanese Komonos

We ended the Week with a food buffet full of food from many different countries, this was absolutely brilliant. All of the TY students got involved and there were lots of delicious dishes and pastry’s . A special well done to the first place dish which went to Cal Melvin for his Zhoug from Yemen.

Alongside these events, we were all doing many activities across the week in our own classrooms such as watching a German movie, being enriched in the culture of olden day German. Our TY French classes were also given a talk with a member of the EU parliament. In this, the class was shown the great importance and help of having extra languages under their belt for future careers and the work that the EU government does. Our TY classes also participated in a Think Languages week quiz, it was great fun for all involved and everyone gave it their best shot.

This could not have been done without the amazing work done by Ms. Foynes, and Mr. O’ Dowd and the work done by the Think Languages Team. Everyone learned something new and gained a deeper understanding of different cultures around the world.
