On Tuesday 9th September, our Transition Years took a trip to Glendalough. As soon as they stepped off the bus, the skies opened and the jackets were on. They took the Derrybawn Woodlands route, an 8km walk. Although shorter, it was a steep route up the left side of the valley over the lower lake which took them through the woods. It offered small but needed shelter until they entered into the clearings. The view was spectacular in spite of the mist and fog as the upper and lower lakes, as well as the monastic sites, the round tower and the graveyard were resplendent. They then took the path down by the streams of Poulnass and were offered a quick peek of the waterfalls they finished their walk by the shores of the upper lake.
They were then given 2 hours of free time. Some chose to buy food from the food trucks , some chose to play football, while others played tip the can and hide and seek in spite of the weather. Football turned out to be more of a slip and slide than a football match with the ball flying as high as the valley from the kickout and the group seemed to be having great craic. Others were having a great time playing other games. At around two they started there walk back to the bus. In spite of the pouring rain, they made the most of it and for that they should commend themselves. Last but not least thanks to the teachers who made the effort in the pouring rain and dealing with slow walkers!
