Last week, Friday 21st of November brought a terrific win for our U16 girls basketball team, who played local rivals Greystones Community College in Shoreline Greystones. After a hard loss on this day last month, the girls were eager for a win, and didn’t they deliver!
The first quarter kicked off and the girls were on fire. Niamh Hoolohan and Ella Cheetham both scored fantastic three-pointers bringing the score to 18-12. A strong defensive line and very accurate shots held the teams lead.
The second and third quarters progressed steadily, with great baskets from Moya, Heather and Niamh. The score kept tipping up, leaving it at 38-31 after the third quarter. Tensions were high as GCC kept pushing up the score in the fourth quarter. With 45 seconds left on the clock, the score was extremely tight at 43-42. Time was up with just a foul left to play, if GCC scored either of their two shots, they would either draw or win. Fortunately they didn’t and the girls were able to keep their win! The team has progressed onto the semi-finals! An exciting chance to maybe bring the U16 title home for a second year?
As always, a massive thank you to coach Ms. Dempsey and Greystones Community College for giving us such an exciting match.
