U19 Girls Basketball Team vs. Woodbrook College

On the 24th of September our U19 girls’ basketball team, coached by Ms. Courtney, faced Woodbrook College on home turf in the school’s sports arena, starting their league off with a bang!

St. David’s began the first quarter strongly, with a quick attacking play leading to a basket in the first ten seconds. Supported by great words of encouragement from their coach, Ms. Courtney, the team continued to excel. Making some great defensive plays, keeping a clean sheet in the first quarter. Emily O'Reilly made some excellent attacking plays leading to her scoring two baskets. The first quarter ended with a score of 16:0 to St. David’s.

After an inspirational talk from Ms. Courtney, the girls were ready for the second quarter. Gabby McKenzie came on and made a great play up the line leading to her making a basket. Caitlin Hanrahan also made some great plays resulting in her scoring three baskets. Woodbrook College scored four baskets showing that it wasn’t over, yet St. David’s still held a strong lead of eleven baskets. By the end of the second quarter the score was 30:10 to St. David’s.

The third quarter started with a skillful throw in from Izzy Creane. St. David’s showed real expertise with some standout plays on the offensive end, contributing to eight baskets in the third quarter. Aoife Fox made a great tackle closing off the third quarter. By the end of the score stood 46:12.

In the final quarter St. David’s confidently set out to close the game with a win. Allowing a fresh set of players to show off their skill, St. David’s controlled the game on the scoring side during the fourth quarter. Gabby McKenzie once again made some incredible offensive plays leading her to put four more scores on the board. The final score was 56:18 to St. David’s 

Overall the team played great against Woodbrook College and hopefully will be able to take their skills into their next game.
