Whole School Mass October '26
On the 15th of October, students and staff gathered in the Sports Arena for the annual school Mass. This whole school event allowed all members of the school community to envision the year ahead and all they wish to achieve from it.
The mass was opened by the school choir with their beautiful rendition of “I Will Be the Vine” led by Ms. Cronly and Mr. Noonan. Our Head Boy, Euan Mcaddam, and Head Girl, Ella Andrews, introduced the day by speaking of the importance of reducing harm in the world and promoting positive change. Deputy Head Girl, Matilda Gustafsson, read a prayer and the school community stood as Father Des read the Gospel.
The choir sang again and wowed all that listened with their harmonies. Father Des then spoke about enjoying the little things in life and emphasised the importance of opening our eyes to the wonder around us. Students from an assortment of years read a variety of prayers, petitioning for hope, climate change, loss and harm. They asked everyone to pray for a more just and equal world.
Gifts of a windmill, candles and water were offered to symbolise the elements of fire, water and air. During the offering of the gifts, the school's trad group played a captivating accompaniment enjoyed by all.
The school community then had the opportunity to receive communion, while the trad group played another enthralling piece of traditional music. Followed by a prayer from Father Des blessing everybody in the school community.
Before he closed the mass, Father Des told an inspiring story about realising our sense of potential, finishing the ceremony on a high note. Finally, the choir ended with “Christ Be Our Light”.
The annual mass is a highlight within the school calendar as it is a rare opportunity the entire school community gets to gather together. Thank you to Father Des for leading the mass.
