On Thursday the 26th of February, Transition Year students Laoise O’Gorman and Niamh O’Neill took the short journey down to Arklow to take part in the Wicklow Enterprise Awards county final.
Niamh and Laoise qualified for the competition in late January with the company ‘From Hand To Heart’. This is a mini business that sells hand made chocolate truffles and cards that focuses on promoting sustainable gift giving. In December of last year, the girls had their stand set up in the school foyer at lunch time where they made many sales to staff and students.
On the day of the county final it was an early start as they needed to be in Arklow for 8 o’clock. When they arrived they got straight to setting up their stand, After this at 9 o’clock they went to the opening ceremony followed by an excellent workshop on negotiating. Swiftly after they went back to their stand and were visited by the judges. This went really well and they received many questions and compliments from the judges about their stand.
As the much awaited awards ceremony commenced the room was filled with both nerves and excitement. St. David’s were delighted to be called out for the Best Senior Stand Award. This is a very well-deserved award after all the hard work they have put into the stand. A huge thank you to Mr. Short and the whole business department.
