YSI Team claim National Title

On Tuesday the 13th of May our YSI “Get Voting” team travelled to the Aviva Stadium with their YSI guides, Ms Foynes and Ms Pullbrook.

After qualifying for a national award in Kilkenny the team arrived at the Aviva at 10am sharp. After they rehearsed they enjoyed some food and games while getting the opportunity to interact with other schools across the country. At 12.30, team captain Anna O’Driscoll stepped up to the podium alongside her team mates to open the award ceremony with their award winning performance. The YSI team consisted of Anna O’Driscoll, Rachel John, Holly Goodwin, Zoe Cartmell, Emily Walsh Randall, Jonah Logan Patterson, Chloe Brady, Sarah McCloskey and Erin Gonzalez. They were accompanied and assisted by prop managers Ewan McAdam and Jack Clery.

The team was awarded the National Advocacy Award for their outstanding project and performance. Their project tackled the issues surrounding young people voting. Throughout the year they helped the sixth years by creating posters and presentations ensuring they were able to vote in the upcoming general election, they hosted a debate between our senior students and local politicians running in the election, they held a whole school mock election prior to the general election to encourage discussion and awareness surrounding politics and lastly they designed a six week TY module curriculum to prepare students for engagement in democracy. They hope this will be utilised as it will create a generation of informed active youth voters in Ireland.

A huge congratulations to the team and their YSI guide Ms Foynes on their incredible achievement.
